the fight for food entertainment…….. comfort in calories……….. the act of addiction.
how come so few wish to reveal the desire to just eat and do nothing else? treading the food pool of boredom which they wade through, grazeing unabashedly, downing pile after pile of chicken wings, beer, nachos… all the while complaining about their health or the body weight they so unconsciously lug around. they’re bored! there’s nothing they feel like doing after working all day at the computer or running the kids to sports practice. they just need to put their feet up and watch the biggest loser or look who’s dancing and mow down any food-like substance that might get in their way or in front of their pie hole. eating for entertainment and for comfort. they use denial, job stress, obligations to family dinners or birthday parties… i mean who’s gonna piss grandma off on her 90th birthday? certainly not you my funky little food freak. you choke down that supermarket cake made of frosting and spongelike stuff, careful not to offend the friends and family who deign to feed us the family style buffet for these get-togethers… which of course are solely designed for getting together, eating and ignoring each other until the appropriate time to split and head home for a bed time snack. hey here’s a new bumper sticker idea: (america eats and drops dead). and let’s not forget the passive-aggressive stance when it comes to work-related food carnage: the bosses invite you to happy hour… fast food, chips, dips plus two for one drinks till 7. and after 7 you’re full enough and drunk enough to finally tell tina in accounting that you think she’s a pig for banging the boss for a raise. and if you had your way you would bang him for a raise and turn her in….
so ends the obligation / reasoning portion of our delicious screed
…but that is the standard party line folks. student after student of mine has used a version of this sad-if-not-lame reasoning to escape the truth. that being they feel its no fun to eat real food go for a walk and enjoy being with other people who are not enabled by food matters… or at the very least realize that each action has a corresponding reaction . i want to get in shape but…….. the “but” being they’re buying into the snake oil song “lose 10 lbs in 10 days” “take 1 pill and eat what you want” not to mention spandex-encrusted underpants that push and squeeze your shit into a shape resembling a human.
america has literally expanded to the point that we have more handicapped parking now than ever at the local “shop till you drop” megaplex. people have distorted their bodies to the point of limping and struggling to move. people don’t fit in there vehicles anymore, or their furniture. we have houses of large sizes and we have legislation to not discriminate against overweight folks. and at the same time we have laws that are trying to control how big your sugar drink should be, so as to slow the fatness that people are incurring from the demon food industry by addicting your ass to sugar (or so goes the theory) but that’s just more of the same crap on a stick. there is only 1 reason you are over weight and becoming unhealthy — it is you do not understand the basics of getting yourself fit and lean.
so you are in luck! here we go; the one-stop shop for reclaiming your natural you. active, flexible, lean and most of all healthy inside and out!
my approach is always from a base truth… the simple plan of what are the basics of being healthy and fit?
the undisputed facts are water instead of pop beer or…? your body is made up of water that fills the muscles and tissues that are the framework of us. so it is a NEED to have clean water to filter your body of toxic stuff like lactic acid from working out or flush your digestive tract of that disturbing dessert you just suck down so that it works properly. it is what we are designed for — drinking water — not energy drinks loaded with mystery ingredients
next: oxygen,air breathing! taking the act of breathing seems simplistic at first but when you realize that most people don’t exert themselves enough to force the lungs to work any harder than a shallow breath, just enough to thump on a key pad, it’s no surprise that they are weak and under-used. first the obvious: you must have a stable and continual stream of O2 in and Carbon Dioxide out. if not, you slowly poison the blood and the organs by not cleaning the blood and tissue with fresh H2O. the carbon dioxide is like invisible gas warfare on your system — it will lead to a domino effect of toxic body, headaches, lethargy of the body and the mind, and the slow decay of the vital balance of qi flow (energy) that works contiuously to keep you eating pizza rolls. a simple regime of streching and breathing every day as well as walking to as many places as you can will solve the H2O problem within weeks. you will feel better taking deeper breaths and you will live longer. dont be fooled by simplicity. and because it’s simple, you have no reason to not do this.
food! real food… food that actualy is part of our eco-system: fruits veggies animal proteins. your yardstick should be: “is this something that is grown or raised?” if it is not that means its been made. like healthy muffins: they don’t work in your body no matter how much natural bla bla bla is in it. now before you get your underwear all twisted in a knot, that’s not to say you cant eat it ever! but if we are talking about the base of what you need, then muffins ain’t in the ball park. they have been processed with sugars and dairy that have been processed and your body can’t process the processed food. eggs fruit nuts veggies meat water — these are what our bodies are designed to run on and what they are made of. if you doubt this, look around and see how many people are at least 20 lbs overweight. it’s from fake entertainment food, like pizza with bacon wrapped around it… what could go wrong? (well, the beer that usually acompanys it.)
start fresh everyday limit the crap, write down what you do, don’t be insane about it. just be aware that if you eat fast food or processed food every day, you will be fat, slow, and crabby, drifting off into coma land staring blankly into the abyss of TV land with a big bowl of chips on your lap
the mind: this is the key that starts the car zen, meditation, whatever you choose to call it is an essential part of the process for guiding the clear choices of you day and your life. this action requires very little: you either sit or stand in a park or your back yard or a very quiet part of your house. then simply close your eyes and breathe in and out. in through your nose and out through your mouth. counting the breaths silently over and over. this act will focus the mind as well as relax your over-active thinking mind. the effect of taking 3 to 5 minutes a day to balance and clear your mind of the constant dialogue that goes on in all our heads is beyond valuable. it sets the calm and clear thermostat for our day so we don’t emotional-eat, or yell at the kids, or stab the boss for not giving you a raise.
