kettlebell swing
Oh, hi. That’s a kettlebell swing. Sharp, concise, clean, to the point. This is not a kettlebell swing, irregardless of what the girls at the YMCA have told you. Or some moron at a cross-fit center has educated you on. That kettlebell swing is the only thing you need to know. Learn it, own it, and then you can propel yourself into other things.
Too often, we kinda learn something, and then people just shove right on through to the next thing. It doesn’t pay off, it doesn’t work, and it’s not good for you. Not good for you.
The swing. From the side, looks like this. We got this Mr. Cameraman? Tap and go. Nice. Sit back, snap to attention. Snap to attention. There’s no stress or tension in my arms. We’re not going extreme. There’s no point to that. This is a core exercise. Quadriceps, buttocks, ab muscles. Lower back, upper back. Flexibility, intensity, and duration.
Yeah, there’s a car going by, but we don’t care. Cause we’re not starting this bad boy over again. From the front view…you ready? Swing from the front view. Tap and go. Feet little wider than shoulder width. Sitting back, not down. This is a common mistake. People sit down. You want to sit back. Let this bell come through your thighs, and then you snap to attention. Relax, attention. Relax, attention.
From the other side, while another car goes by. All of a sudden it’s a very busy place out here at the ranch. Swing from this side, here we go. Practice that with a moderate size bell.
Our next blog is going to reveal these swing techniques and go over how to select a bell that’s right for you. Suffice it to say, the size of the bell, you don’t want it too big, you don’t want it too small. Do your own jokes. But you want to find something, if you’re a gal, rule of thumb, 25 pounds. Guy, somewhere in the neighborhood of 50. Those are good measurements to go by. You want to make sure that you don’t over-extend yourself. Just utilize what you need.
One more look, and then I have to go. We’ve gotta go put up a no-go-through sign out here in front of my house. Here we go. Just like that. Come back next week for more. See ya then.
